Victoria program status (checked 20 October 2026)

Subclass 190 and 491:
Not open yet. Live in Melbourne says the 2026-27 program will open soon for Registrations of Interest, with eligibility criteria published when it opens. Victoria's update of 13 October 2026 announced new fees for 2026-27.
  • New fees from 2026-27: Registration of Interest $60 ($66 including GST), and a $180 ($198) nomination application fee for 190 or 491, payable only if you're invited and apply. GST applies if you're in Australia when you pay.
  • The ROI fee is charged once per program year; withdrawing and resubmitting in the same year isn't charged again.
  • If you submitted an ROI in a previous program year, you must submit a new one when the 2026-27 program opens.
  • ROIs are ranked by the Victorian Points Test (VPT): age, English, years of experience, education, occupation skill level, partner skills and Victorian earnings. The top scores add up to 950, and there's no pass mark.
  • Each round invites the highest VPT totals across all eligible occupations, and the highest within each priority industry: healthcare, social assistance, education and construction.

Victoria points you to the Home Affairs skilled occupation list for your occupation's skill level.

How Victoria uses the VPT

  • Applicants in all eligible occupations can submit an ROI, and every ROI is ranked by its VPT total.
  • Most competitive: in each invitation round, the ROIs with the highest VPT totals across all eligible occupations in the pool are invited.
  • Priority industry: in each round, the ROIs with the highest VPT totals within each priority industry or industry subgroup are also invited.
  • There's no fixed pass mark. Outcomes depend on how competitive the ROI pool is at the time of each round, and Victoria says it can't tell you how likely you are to be invited or how your points compare with others.
  • Victoria doesn't prioritise invitations for personal circumstances such as your age or a visa or document about to expire.

FAQ

Victorian Points Test questions

What is the Victorian Points Test (VPT)?
It's the points test Victoria uses to rank every Registration of Interest (ROI) for subclass 190 and 491 nomination. It weighs seven factors: age, English language, years of experience in your nominated occupation, education, occupation skill level, your partner's skills and annual earnings from skilled employment in Victoria. ROIs are ranked from the highest VPT total to the lowest.
What VPT score do I need for Victorian nomination?
There's no fixed pass mark. In each invitation round Victoria invites the ROIs with the highest VPT totals, and it says it can't tell applicants how likely they are to be invited or how their points compare with others. The top score in every factor adds up to 950.
Is the VPT the same as my SkillSelect points?
No. The VPT only ranks ROIs for Victorian nomination. Your visa still needs at least 65 points on the Australian Government's points test, which you can check with our PR points calculator.
How many VPT points do I get for age?
Ages 20 to 29 score the most, 300 points. Age 18 scores 265 and 19 scores 282, and from 30 the score falls each year, from 286 to 16 at 44.
How do I get the 50 partner points?
All three must apply: you have claimed 10 points for Partner Skills in your SkillSelect EOI; your partner will be included in your state nominated visa application; your partner's occupation is a current priority industry occupation. Otherwise the factor scores 0, including if you're single or have an Australian partner.
What are Victoria's 2026-27 priority industries?
Victoria lists 101 priority occupations across 4 industries: healthcare, social assistance, education and construction. In each round it invites the highest VPT totals within each priority industry or subgroup, as well as the highest totals across all eligible occupations.
When does Victoria's 2026-27 program open?
Not open yet. Live in Melbourne says the 2026-27 program will open soon for Registrations of Interest, with eligibility criteria published when it opens. Victoria's update of 13 October 2026 announced new fees for 2026-27. Check Live in Melbourne for the opening date.
