The Points Test Is Changing

The Australian Government has confirmed it will reform the skilled migration points test as part of the 2026–27 Federal Budget. Expected changes include:

  • • Revised age bracket weightings
  • • Greater emphasis on English proficiency
  • • Possible removal of Professional Year and Australian study bonuses
  • • New income-based considerations tied to the Core Skills Income Threshold
  • • Greater priority for healthcare and trades occupations

What has not changed: The current Schedule 6D points system remains in effect. The 65-point minimum threshold is unchanged.
