2026 REFORM UPDATE

The Points Test Is Changing

The Australian Government has confirmed it will reform the skilled migration points test as part of the 2026–27 Federal Budget. Expected changes include:

  • • Revised age bracket weightings
  • • Greater emphasis on English proficiency
  • • Professional Year and Australian study bonuses may change; nothing is legislated
  • • Salary may be considered differently; no income rule has been legislated
  • • Greater priority for healthcare and trades occupations

What has not changed: The current Schedule 6D points system remains in effect. The 65-point minimum threshold is unchanged.
